So I have a normal full-time job, with the employer doing all the tax stuff, PAYE whatever. However, I do some minimal additional work, which I need to declare. But I was filling in the online forms and at no point did I get a question, to which I could answer “Yes” in order to declare said income. Does anyone know which section I should be filling in?

I got asked if I was self-employed – I mean no I’m not of course (though perhaps I am for the purposes of my extra income?), should I be answering in the affirmative for that section?

There are only six questions on the page, surely you can see which one is for employees.

The only thing that is constant is change.

Thanks for this. Not sure what “the page” is. There are 25 or so questions about “Did you receive…” / “Are you…”. And given none of them really applied to me, I thought perhaps there was another section I should be filling in. Given this is a reasonably serious form, I thought it would be prudent to be sure before continuing.

Yes my extra income is separate from my normal work.

I asked a friend who has done the self-assessment who said I definitely wasn’t self-employed and that there should be somewhere obvious to fill in. But given I couldn’t see that…

Actually these two answers are slightly contradictory. Should I put Yes for both self-employeed and the “director, employee” etc question? My full-time employment is already taxed correctly…

Edit: Ok, I’ve put Yes for both of the above
